The Animal Remains Innocent, 2026

Alejandra Jimenez constructs a visual world that sits on the knife-edge between a classical fairytale and the collective unconscious. There is a formal contrast between frontal figures that stare at the viewer and kinetic bodies suspended in states of descent or flotation. Across the exhibition, allegorical motifs, mythological presences, and initiatory encounters construct a personal mythology of assimilation and transformation. Time within these scenes moves spirally; the body knows itself as a continuum of living forms. Psychological states take ecological form and become omens of recognition. Jimenez also situates the viewer within the framework of the hero's journey but subverts it through undoing its very structure. Power is no longer measured by a strong armor or a sense of conquest, but by the courage to remain permeable: to yield to the unconscious, to inhabit the animistic, and to reclaim the forgotten earth-based wisdom. Jimenez has come to understand this work as grounded in the belief human existence is inseparable from the ecological systems that sustain it. The analogy of the spider feeling pain when its web breaks becomes central: rupture within the network produces rupture within the self. The Animal Remains Innocent remains so because it operates according to instinctual structures that precede law, destabilizing the perceived boundary between human consciousness and the elemental world. The exhibition proposes not only a return to the animistic, but the recognition that we have never been outside it.
